Long Range Planning

The Long Range Planning is responsible for the development of long term planning policies and bylaws relating to land conservation, maintenance, conversion, development, and redevelopment.  This includes land use planning documents such as the Official Community Plan, neighbourhood and area plans, and Parks and Open Space Master Plan.

Long Range Planning, Community Planning Division is within the Planning & Development Department on the 2nd Floor of City Hall.  Long Range Planning's  objective is to balance the public interest expressed within the myPG Sustainability Plan, myPG Strategies, and Official Community Plan with private interests expressed by landowner's development proposals.  The department achieves this balance by creating and managing efficient, effective, and fair development procedures.  We are dedicated to promoting Council’s Vision by:  

  • engaging citizens in early and ongoing consultation around the community’s objectives;
  • articulating the community’s challenges, opportunities, options, and preferred future;
  • anticipating issues and changing community needs;
  • improving the community’s resilience in the face of dramatic change;
  • protecting people and property from hazardous conditions;
  • undertaking environmental initiatives to encourage health & well-being, and protect the natural environment, its ecosystems and biological diversity;
  • balancing social, environment, and economic objectives; and,
  • establishing a legacy of thoughtful, collaborative, and transparent decision-making.

    As a critical regulatory tool, council, staff and citizens use the OCP to help make decisions on things like where we locate housing, what our transportation priorities are, and how we provide services for more sustainable development
