The Long Range Planning Division has prepared a Parks and Open Space Master Plan that will guide the use, acquisition, disbursement and development of parks and open spaces. The Plan includes broad principles, recommendations and strategies that respond to both current and future trends and challenges facing the Parks and Open Space System. This Plan is also a culmination of the ongoing consultations the City has had with numerous groups, associations and agencies with community, outdoor, recreational, environmental and cultural interests that relate to parks and open spaces.
Implementation of the Plan will occur with the follow up to the various recommendations throughout the Plan, which mainly relate to parkland acquisition, development and disbursement. Some recommendations also include a review and/or development of more detailed strategies and plans as they relate to specific parkland, recreation and leisure programming and services.
The Plan was adopted by City Council on September 8th, 2008 while the Implementation Strategy was adopted by Council on July 13th, 2009. The Plan and Implementation Strategy are included below.
