Melissa Barcellos - Manager, Economic Development
As the Manager of Economic Development for the City of Prince George, Melissa's role is to facilitate and promote economic growth and diversification in order to increase the population and tax base.
Born and raised in Prince George, Melissa attended the University of Northern British Columbia where she obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree. She also attended the University of Waterloo where she obtained a Certificate in Economic Development. Her past experience includes economic development, management, marketing, communications, auctioneering and tourism.
An animal lover who strives to put an end to animal cruelty, Melissa sits on the Board of Directors for the BC SPCA. In her spare time, she practices and volunteers at the Prince George Judo Club and travels as often as possible; she has visited over 30 countries and plans to see many more.
Keenan Hopson - Economic Development Officer
In his role as the Economic Development Officer, Keenan is responsible for providing business attraction, retention, and expansion services for the City to meet the community's business and economic development needs.
Keenan received a hockey scholarship to the University of Maine where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in accounting. He has subsequently completed his Post Graduate Certificate in Valuation and is a member of the Real Estate Institute of British Columbia (RI). Keenan has experience in economic development, construction, real estate, accounting, and appraisals. Keenan was born and raised in Prince George and he is dedicated to growing Prince George in a way that is best for him, his family and everyone that calls 'PG' home.
Christina Doll - Workforce Development Officer
In her role as Workforce Development Officer, Christina is responsible for supporting local businesses by implementing initiatives that attract and retain population in Prince George.
Christina draws on her past experience in economic development, marketing, public and media relations, social media management, event coordination and broadcast journalism in her current role. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Northern British Columbia. She has also completed a Diploma in Public Relations from the University of Victoria and a Diploma of Technology in Broadcast and Media Communications from the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Born and raised in Prince George, Christina is passionate about collaborating with community partners to facilitate sustainable growth in the city.
Joanna Johnston - Business Development Officer
In her role as Business Development Officer, Joanna is responsible for developing relationships with existing businesses, understanding their needs, and developing and delivering best practices in business retention and expansion initiatives.
Joanna has worked across many industries gaining extensive experience in stakeholder relations, community development, project management, public relations and marketing including: telecommunications, project and facilities management, industrial construction, commercial and residential construction, bioenergy and the public sector. Her education includes a bachelor’s degree from UVIC – economics major, a master’s certificate in project management from UNBC and she is a registered project management professional (PMP).
Joanna is passionate about Prince George, with deep roots in the Cariboo. She moved to Prince George seven years ago to raise her two sons and find greater economic stability. She is an ambassador for this region, the amazing community, quality of life and the all the opportunities found here.
