Committees, boards, and commissions meet to discuss relevant and important issues that affect the City of Prince George. Some groups, such as the Advisory Committee on Enhancing Prince George, form through citizen engagement, while other groups, such as the Prince George Public Library Board, form through provincial legislative mandate. The intention of these groups is to help the City operate as a representative, efficient, and transparent local government.
Council Committees are directed through individual Terms of Reference and the Committees, Commissions and Boards Procedures Manual.
The Advisory Committee on Accessibility meets monthly and advises and assists the City of Prince George Council, staff, and committees in developing and facilitating strategies and actions towards the development and maintenance of a barrier-free community, with the goal of improving the quality of life for all individuals.
The Advisory Committee on Development Design meets weekly, as needed, and provides impartial advice on development or policy affecting the community’s physical environment. It also advises on applications for development permits in accordance with their Terms of Reference.
The Advisory Committee on Enhancing Prince George meets monthly and advises Council on the enhancement of the social, cultural and natural vibrancy of Prince George through the encouragement and support of community participation, civic pride and neighbourhood engagement.
The Prince George Heritage Commission meets monthly and advises on matters regarding the protection, conservation, and interpretation of heritage resources within the community by supporting, encouraging, and facilitating their conservation, maintenance, and restoration.
The Prince George Public Library Board meets monthly and is responsible for providing library services and programs in Prince George. The Library Board establishes the policies, goals, and objectives of the Library and advocates for the Library in the greater community.
Select Advisory Committee on Economic Development advises Council on matters
regarding the establishment of an economic development strategy for the City.
The Select Committee on Education advises Council on matters regarding priorities, policies, and the strategic direction for education in Prince George and Northern British Columbia.
The Select Committee on a Healthy City Framework meets monthly and advises Council and City staff on matters regarding the priorities, policies, and strategies affecting quality of life in Prince George. The Committee informs the development of City strategies to achieve myPG Social Development goals and works to strengthen communications and collaboration between the City of Prince George and its respective social/community development partners.
The Select Committee on Student Needs is responsible for advising Council on matters regarding the priorities, policies, and strategies affecting students in Prince George.
The Standing Committee on Finance and Audit meets as per the established work plan for discussions on issues related to the City’s financial and purchasing functions and to review the results of the City’s financial auditing processes.
The Standing Committee on Intergovernmental Resolutions meets, as needed, to develop resolutions on key issues that may be advanced by Council for consideration at the North Central Local Government Association, Union of BC Municipalities, and Federation of Canadian Municipalities conventions.
