Board of Variance

The City is recruiting to fill one (1) vacancy on the Board of Variance for the remainder of a term ending March 31, 2026.

A local government that has adopted a zoning bylaw must, by bylaw, establish a board of variance to consider requests from property owners to vary Zoning Bylaw requirements where compliance with the bylaw would create undue hardship.

As variances are considered by Council during regular council meetings, the Board of Variance does not have a regular meeting schedule and would meet as required.

Prince George Heritage Commission

The City is recruiting to fill three (3) vacancies on the Prince George Heritage Commission for the remainder of a term ending February 28, 2025.

The Heritage Commission is responsible for undertaking heritage education and awareness activities and reviewing and reporting to City Council and Staff on matters of heritage significance within the City.

The Commission meets quarterly in March, June, September, and December, with meetings scheduled on Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In addition to attendance at the quarterly meetings, interested applicants must be willing to participate actively in projects the Heritage Commission undertakes throughout the year such as attending heritage events and workshops, participating in research activities, and attending informal Commission work group meetings.

Applications

Applications will be accepted until 5:00 p.m., Thursday, October 19, 2023.

What Do Committees, Commissions, and Boards Do?

Committees, boards, and commissions meet to discuss important issues that affect the City of Prince George. Some groups form through citizen engagement while others - such as the Prince George Public Library Board - come together through provincial legislative mandate.

These groups function to help the City operate as a representative, efficient, and transparent local government and Council Committees are directed by way of individual Terms of Reference and the Committees, Commissions, and Boards Procedures Manual.
