Cooling centres open in response to heat warning

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Prince George, BC – In response to the heat warning issued in the Prince George area by Environment Canada, the City of Prince George has activated Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) level 1 and is working with partnering organizations to provide cooling spaces.

On July 9 and 10, the following cooling centres will be available:

POUNDS

Location: 1126 3rd Avenue

Hours of operation: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

BC Schizophrenia Society (Prince George Branch)

Location: 1139 6th Avenue

Hours of operation: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Fire Pit (Positive Living North)

Location: 1120 3rd Avenue

Hours of operation: 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Central Interior Native Health Society

Location: 393 George Street

Hours of operation: 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on July 9 and 10.

High temperatures affect everyone, but risks are greater for seniors, people with limited mobility, and people with pre-existing health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, or respiratory disease. Check on family, friends, and neighbours who are at higher risk, particularly if they live alone, to make sure they have a cool space.

High temperatures are expected to lower starting Thursday, July 11.
