FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Prince George, BC – At approximately 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2024, Prince George Fire Rescue Service crews from two firehalls and one helicopter from the B.C. Wildfire Service responded to a reported wildfire near the UNBC campus.

Located in a difficult-to-access wooded area, crews reached the fire scene on foot to discover a fully involved vehicle fire.

Crews used both Prince George Fire Rescue and B.C. Wildfire Service trucks to bring additional water, staff, and equipment to the scene using a dirt access road. Ground crews in direct radio contact with the B.C. Wildfire Service aircraft were able to coordinate their efforts, extinguishing the fire before it was able to spread into the surrounding wooded area.

No injuries to civilians or fire crews were reported. The cause of the fire is undetermined. The vehicle, which appears to have been abandoned, was completely destroyed in the fire and will be removed at a later date.
