Prince George Active Communities Strategic Plan

The Prince George Active Communities Strategic Plan was developed to address the goals to increase physical activity and healthy eating in our community.

The Active Community Strategic Plan is a living document that will assist the City or Prince George in moving forward toward reaching the goal of motivating Prince George citizens to become more active, make healthier food choices and to lead healthier lifestyles.

The plan identified the strategic indicators listed below:

Plans and Policies: Develop, implement and support plans and policies that promote physical fitness, healthy eating and overall wellness amongst residents of Prince George

Opportunities and Participation: Engage, mobilize, encourage and recognize community efforts to provide opportunities for physical activities and healthy eating.

Supportive Environments, Collaborations and Partnerships: Facilitate and integrate physical activity and healthy eating in supportive environments that improve community capacity and value and contribute to an active lifestyle.

Communication, Education, Community Identity and Involvement: Create an Active Community Healthy Strategy that will be identifiable and recognizable for all residents which will educate, secure support and assist in making informed positive choices and changes about physical activity and healthy eating for life.

Stay Active, Eat Healthy

The Stay Active Eat Healthy® program is an evidence-based capacity building initiative developed in BC that aims to increase the provision of healthy food and beverages while restricting unhealthy options in municipal and community recreation facilities.

The initiative is designed to encourage individuals to make healthy choices when purchasing food or beverage products where they live, work, learn and play.

Its objective is to support recreational facilities and to take a leadership role within the community to promote a healthy, active lifestyle by providing healthy choices in vending machines, snack bars, food concessions, programs and events to benefit both workers and the public; and to facilitate collaborative approaches between industry and recreation facility staff to provide and promote a wider range of healthy choices.
