Volunteer Recognition Awards

Prince George is an exceptional city because of the variety of people who work hard and give of their time to make this community a wonderful place to live, learn, work and play.

The City of Prince George honours citizens with the following Volunteer Recognition Awards:

Recreation & Culture Award

Recognition of individuals who have contributed or are still contributing significantly to the development of Recreation or Culture in Prince George (including: Recreation, Sport, Culture, Visual Arts, and Performing Arts) for a minimum of 5 years.

Community Service Award

Recognition of individuals who have contributed or are still contributing significantly to the development of Community Services in Prince George for a minimum of 5 years.  A community service is defined as service which aids people in need and which affects portions of the community.  (Examples include: support groups, services for the disabled, counseling groups, food banks, etc.) 

Outstanding Volunteer Award

Recognition of individuals who are outstanding volunteers.  They have contributed or are still contributing to the development of the community of Prince George by volunteering their time to a number of organizations, groups or disciplines.  These volunteers have gone above and beyond the call of duty an have provided exemplary volunteer service.  They must have volunteered for a minimum of 15 years in various organizations, groups or disciplines.

Youth of the Year Award

Recognition of youth attending school in Prince George and between the ages of 13 - 18 years old.  The individual must have shown school involvement (including average or above average academic standing, extracurricular activities and volunteer committees) and must have made significant contributions in the community (outside of school) through volunteering. 

Community Champion Award

Recognition of an individual who champions Prince George as the Volunteer City.  A person who has inspired people to take action in a coordinated effort.  Examples may include; attracted new volunteers, enhanced (in a significant way) programs or services, championed a new or innovative idea, called people to action, was a "game changer", developed an innovative and successful fundraising campaign, provided exceptional volunteerism to a one-time cause or event, etc.

Recognizes a group, individual or business who has made a significant contribution to improving accessibility within the City of Prince George. Click here for more information.

Other Community Awards

There are several other organizations in the community that honour outstanding citizens of Prince George. The Community Foundation  selects the Citizen of the Year, the Community Arts Council  inducts people into the Art Gallery of Honour and the Sports Hall of Fame Society induct individuals or teams into their Hall of Fame.
