Gift & Legacy Picnic Tables, Benches, and Trees

PLEASE NOTE: The Gift and Legacy program is complete for 2024 and will resume in January 2025.

Commemorate an occasion, celebrate an organization, or memorialize a loved one by donating to have a picnic table or bench installed.

Picnic tables are made of stone aggregate materials.
Benches are made of recycled plastics.
The tree donation program is being revamped for 2025 -Please see the tree section below

The City will work with donors to arrange specifics like suitable locations, site visits, and plaque inscriptions (where appropriate). This program will only install tables/benches on City owned park land.

Installation will vary depending on staff availability and weather conditions.

Sales and Tax Receipts

Please note the name on the tax receipt issued at the end of the year MUST match whoever paid for the donation (verification required). Upon payment, you will need to submit a tax form to receive a receipt. Only one tax receipt will be issued per table/bench.

How does it work?

Donors must submit an online application. The City will be in touch within two weeks to schedule a meeting to review the application and discuss the process in detail. Depending on the type of donation, a follow-up meeting may be necessary to determine:
- Locations
- Plaque details and wording
- Installation schedules
Please indicate on the application form if a tax receipt is needed. The City will issue only one receipt per whole donation.
Applications will be accepted between January and July 1 with limited numbers of benches annually. Once that quota is met, the application process will be suspended until the following January.
- Benches, picnic tables, and trees remain City property.
- Memorial program fees include bench/picnic table and installation costs.
- Donors may choose a park location (subject to City approval). However, there is no operational need for more benches or picnic tables in Lheidli T’enneh Memorial park, Nechako Riverside park, Cottonwood Island park, Hazelton park and Paddlewheel park.
- The City cannot guarantee against damage caused to picnic tables/benches by vandalism or acts of nature.
- The City cannot guarantee tree health against vandalism or acts of nature (e.g. winter storms, insect damage, decay, damaged branches).

A new tree donation program will be launched in spring 2025.
Cost: $1,500.
Each year Park staff plant dozens of large caliper trees in very specific locations that have been identified through an internal process to maximize the benefits associated with increasing tree canopy coverage while adding to the aesthetics of the urban forest. Your donation can add to the city's urban canopy. Program details will be available in the spring of 2025
