Financial Assistance to the City for Emergency Response Costs

The City of Prince George can receive financial assistance for eligible emergency response costs under the BC Provincial Emergency Program. Response is defined as “the wide array of efforts needed to remove hazards, rescue persons, and reduce the extent of damage during an emergency” and includes actions to:

  • Determine the area and extent of the disaster
  • Contain the disaster, including protective works
  • Remove assets from the area of immediate risk
  • Implement special security measures
  • Provide emergency medical care to casualties of the disaster
  • Provide transportation, food, shelter, and health care for evacuated persons
  • Shelter and feed livestock
  • Operate special communications, inquiry, control and health and sanitation facilities

Eligible response costs can be recovered up to 100%.

Financial Assistance to the City for Emergency Recovery Costs

The City of Prince George can receive financial assistance for eligible emergency recovery costs under the BC Provincial Emergency Program. Recovery is defined as “the coordinated set of actions designed to reduce the effects of the disaster including a deliberate effort to forestall and overcome the adverse impacts of the disaster”. Recovery can be divided into 2 categories:

  1. Local Authority Recovery
    • Restoration of damaged infrastructure
    • Continuation of public services
  2. Community Recovery
    • Coordinated information for affected residents and businesses
    • Advocacy for those impacted by a disaster
    • Coordinated donations of funds, goods, and services
    • Volunteer effort to assist with cleanup and reconstruction
    • Facilitated healing

Eligible recovery costs can be recovered up to 80%
