Prince George Recycling and Environmental Action Planning Society (REAPS) Delegation

  • REAPS presented to Council about a planned Growing Knowledge Community Compost Garden to be located next to the expanded David Douglas Botanical Garden Society botanical garden at UNBC.
  • Council directed staff to draft a report in response to REAPS’ request for a $100,000 cash or in-kind donation to assist with grading the site and installing utilities connections.

Safe Biking for Prince George Delegation

  • Council heard a presentation by Safe Biking for Prince George about the need for improved bike lane access in Prince George.
  • Council approved a referral to the Finance and Audit Committee to consider adding bike lane improvements to the capital plan.

Cariboo Rocks the North Information Report

  • Council received a report on the financial matters of the Cariboo Rocks the North music festivals. The three-day outdoor classic rock festivals have been presented with Pacific Western Brewing as the title sponsor since 2018. 
  • In 2022, 7,428 day-tickets were sold. Approximately 35% of tickets purchased were from outside of Prince George, including visitors from Lax Kw’alaams, Calgary, Anchorage, Abbotsford, Battleford, Whitehorse, and Winnipeg.
  • Administration is creating a concert and event sponsorship administrative procedure for all relevant events.

2023- 2024 Annual Operating Agreement for the Prince George Transit System

  • Council approved the 2023 -2024 Annual Operating Agreement with BC Transit to operate public transit in Prince George.   Operating costs are shared between the Province and the City. 

  • The total operating cost for the conventional transit system is projected to be $10,881,148 with the City responsible for 53.1% of the cost and the Province responsible for 46.69% of the cost.   
  • The total operating cost for the custom (handyDART) transit system is projected to be $1,627,945 with the City responsible for 33.31% of the cost and the Province responsible for 66.69% of the cost.  

Free Transit Fares Policy 2023 Update

  • Council approved an update to the Free Transit Fares Policy. The policy outlines days in which fares are free in Prince George including Clean Air Day, Go By Bike Week, National Seniors Day, and more.

Southwest Sector Park Improvement Capital Project

  • Council approved adding the Southwest Sector Park Improvement Capital Project to the 2023-2027 Financial Plan using the $27,000 remaining in the Southwest Sector Reserve Fund. Included in the capital project are:
    • Disc golf at College Heights Elementary
    • Lights at the College Heights Secondary tennis court
    • Playgrounds at Van Bien and Peden Hill Elementary schools
    • Park refurbishments/development in the Vanway and South Fort George areas

Rezoning Amendment Application No. RZ100785 (Bylaw No. 9388, 2022)

  • Council approved third reading of a rezoning bylaw for a commercial property at 611 Brunswick Street to allow for a mixed-use apartment building containing up to 80 units of housing.

Rezoning Amendment Application No. RZ100770 (Bylaw No. 9358, 2022)

  • Council approved third reading of a rezoning bylaw for a commercial property at 1616 and 1650 Queensway to allow for 30 units of supportive housing.
