FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Prince George, B.C. – The Aquatic Centre is closed as of January 1, 2026, and the City of Prince George is preparing to move the project into the next phase of construction.

During the closure, the Canfor Leisure Pool will host all aquatic activities including clubs, swimming lessons, and public swimming. To make the transition to one pool smoother, the City has created a guide for swimmers. Inside the guide, residents can find helpful tips including:

  • Where to park and how to register for free parking
  • Where to find the universal changeroom
  • How to use shoe lockers in the lobby
  • How to share lanes when swimming laps
  • How to provide feedback about aquatics programming

The guide is available on the City website and at the Canfor Leisure Pool.

During the two-year closure of the Aquatic Centre, the Canfor Leisure Pool will be open seven days a week with extended hours. Public swimming hours are from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Friday, 12:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays, and 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays. A minimum of two lanes will be available during all public swimming times.

IDL Projects was awarded the contract for pre-construction work at the Aquatic Centre in fall 2025 and will continue as the construction manager through the project. Since October, project managers have been carrying out exploratory work to understand the scope of the renovation. Requests for proposals (RFP) will be issued for additional contractors to carry out specific tasks like plumbing and heating, tiling, etc. in the new year. Stay up to date on the project webpage
