The objective of the One Time Climate Action (Micro) grant is to provide funding to registered not-for-profits for projects and events that help your organization and the community reduce GHG emissions and/or adapt to changes in climate. This is a one-time grant funded by the Local Government Action Program through the Province of BC
- The application deadline is on March 31st, 2026, at 4:30 pm
- Allocations are generally $2,500 or less
- The amount available in 2026 to allocate for this stream is $25,000
Before completing a grant application, please ensure the project or event meets grant criteria and eligibility requirements.
Grant criteria
Projects or events must demonstrate the following criteria:
- Reduce GHG emissions
- Directly help adapt the community to climate change
Projects that show strong alignment with the City’s Strategic Goals will be prioritized:
- Encouraging environmental sustainability and stewardship
- Advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility
- Ensuring a safe, healthy and clean community for all
Projects that require minimal to low maintenance on an ongoing basis demonstrating sustainability will also be considered with higher priority.
Eligibility requirements
- Must be a registered non-profit society
- Applicants can apply for multiple projects however the projects must be different
- Projects must be within the City of Prince George Boundary
- Your project must impact over 100 residents
Climate Action (Micro) Grant eligible expenses
- Admin Fee (staff wage/salary up to 15% of total budget requested)
- Minor Capital projects and purchases (LED lighting, tree planting, purchasing rain barrels etc.)
- Events costs (advertising costs, tent rental, educational print materials, venue rental)
Climate Action (Micro) Grant will NOT fund
- Individual residents
- For-profit businesses
- Projects that have already occurred
- On-going operational expenses
- Office supplies or other consumable materials
- Research
- Payment of City property taxes
- Travel
- Capital improvements to School property
- Funding to further offset rental fees for City-owned facilities is not eligible, as these rentals are already at a discounted rate for non-profits
- Capital projects on City property (for example, the city owned area between property lines and sidewalks or road)
- Projects that may require ongoing maintenance by city staff

- Within 4-6 weeks after grant deadline: notification of both successful and unsuccessful applicants sent to the email address provided on the application form and cheque sent out to the mailing address provided on your organizations profile

Climate Action (Micro) Grant Scoring Matrix
Adjudication team composition
- 1-2 representatives from the climate action sector
- 1-2 representatives from the not-for-profit sector
- 1-2 internal City staff from various divisions
- Supported by administration (1-2 as non-voting members)
Funding considerations
Adjudication reviews applications using a scoring matrix based on overall alignment with the grant criteria and eligibility requirements. Additional considerations may include:
- Number of applications received
- Total amount requested from all applicants
- Budget available to allocate to all applications

All projects must be completed by December 31st, 2026.
An evaluation report is required 30 days after project completion. Reporting is completed through the on-line portal and includes a short written summary, receipt of capital expense (if any) and at least one photo.
