FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Prince George, B.C. – The City of Prince George is pleased to announce that CN has extended its naming rights agreement for the CN Centre through to 2030.
At last nights meeting, city council approved signing an extension of the naming agreement for CN Centre.
Originally established in 2005, the naming rights agreement has played a key role in supporting one of Prince George’s premier sports and entertainment facilities. The CN Centre is home to the Prince George Cougars of the Western Hockey League (WHL) and hosts a variety of concerts, sporting events, and community gatherings each year.
In 2020 Council approved a five-year extension agreement with an option to extend for another five years, which is what has now been agreed upon.
“CN has been a tremendous partner in the CN Centre’s success both locally and internationally. The strength of our long-term relationship cannot be overstated. By partnering together over two decades, the CN Centre is now a recognized leader amidst sports and entertainment venues of our size,” says Glen Mikkelsen, CN Centre Manager. “Not only that, our ‘trainboni’ is the best zamboni in the world!”
CN’s connection with the CN Centre was celebrated over the weekend of March 14 and 15 with the themed "Railroaders in our Community” weekend between CN and the Cougars, which included a ceremonial puck drop with CN, Lheidli T'enneh First Nation and City of Prince George representatives.
“At CN, it’s important for us to do our part to help communities remain great places to live, work, and play,” said Tyler Banick, Manager, Stakeholder Relations for CN in British Columbia. “Prince George is home to hundreds of active and retired CN railroaders, and we’re excited to celebrate our long-standing partnership with the City and the community.”
The CN Centre first opened its doors in 1995 and has since hosted numerous high-profile events, including national and international hockey tournaments, concerts from world-renowned artists.
