FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Prince George, BC – The City of Prince George has launched a Parking Modernization Study to assess and improve parking in the Downtown and Hospital Parking Zones. The study aims to optimize municipal parking supply, enhance parking operations and enforcement, and align with the City’s long-term planning objectives, including the Civic Core District Plan.
To conduct the study, the City has partnered with LEA Consulting Ltd. (LEA), a transportation planning and engineering firm specializing in parking management solutions. The study will review both on-street and off-street parking (surface lots and parkades) to evaluate current demand and anticipate future parking needs based on growth projections and mobility trends.
The project will focus on:
- Parking Supply & Design
- Public Safety
- Accessibility
- Payment & Enforcement
- Supporting Infrastructure & Maintenance
- Other Parking Considerations (e.g., EV Charging, Bike Parking)
Public input is a critical component of the study, and the City encourages residents and businesses to participate in shaping the future of parking in Prince George. Direct engagement will take place with downtown businesses and business groups like the Downtown Business Association, Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Prince George. Key engagement opportunities include:
- Online Survey (April 2025): An online survey will be launched to gather feedback from residents and business owners on their parking concerns and experiences in the downtown and hospital areas.
- Public Meeting (June 2025 – Date TBD): A public meeting will be held to present draft study findings and recommendations for community feedback.
The plan is for the findings of the study and the public input to be presented to council in July.
The study is a result of a notice of motion put forward to council last year, and agreed to by council last July.
Details about the project can be found here.
