Here are some highlights from the June 12, 2023, City Council meeting. For more information – including the full agenda listing – read the Regular Council Meeting Agenda and its attachments.

Everyone at the Table (EAT) delegation

  • The Queensway 5 Coalition presented to Council about the opportunity to grow food security in the north by having the City purchase five acres of farmland on Queensway.
  • Council directed staff to prepare a report that researches potential funding sources to purchase the land and provides an update on the status of the development of a Food Charter and Food Policy Council as recommended by the Select Committee on Poverty Reduction in 2021.

Re-Introduction of the Life Cycle Cost Analysis for Proposed Prince George Community Foundation - Rotary Destination Park ("Mega Park")

  • Council received the life cycle cost analysis report for the proposed Mega Park project again after requesting more information in December 2022. The total cost of the park features and the operation, maintenance, and eventual renewal of the park’s infrastructure over a 50-year period is more than $68 million.
  • Council directed staff to provide more information about the project including the project scope, financials, business partnerships, and commercial enterprise lease options.

College Heights Comprehensive Development

  • Council received a comprehensive development study done in College Heights. The study looks at land use, traffic impacts, and current infrastructure in light of three proposed large land development projects for multi-family housing in the area.
  • The proposed applications received first and second readings and will return to a future council meeting for a public hearing before Council considers third readings.

Public Hearing for Rezoning Application No. RZ100784 (Bylaw No. 9387)

  • Council approved a third reading of a rezoning application to build an apartment building at 2690 Queensway. Council passed a motion to withhold a final reading until the applicant registers a covenant limiting the development to 39 units which is down from the original proposal of 55.
