FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Prince George B.C – The top swimmers from around the province will be at the Prince George Aquatic Centre between August 11 – 17, 2025 for the 67th annual provincial championships put on by the BC Summer Swimming Association (BCSSA). This meet will attract approximately 1,800 athletes in four disciplines which include diving, artistic swimming, water-polo and speed swimming.  This competition is expected to bring approximately 6,000 attendees to Prince George.

Cariboo Regional Director Rory Boyle said “these athletes are the best of their region, and then they compete at provincials to be the best in the province.  The ages range from six years old to having adults swim. This competition is one of the largest annual meets in Canada and the culmination of eight regional qualifying meets.  Prince George will be represented from the Pisces Swim Club who train out of the PG Aquatic Centre.”

City of Prince George Aquatics Division manager Jim Worthington said this is the second time this prestigious competition has been held in Prince George in recent memory with the first occurring in 2007.

“Having competitive clubs train out of the Aquatic Centre and hosting a large competition such as the BCSSA championships is in-part what the Aquatic Centre was built for, and we are excited to showcase Prince George and the Aquatic Centre to athletes and visitors from around the province,” he said.

Mayor Simon Yu said the number of people an event like this brings to Prince George is great for the City.

“This event not only highlights the exceptional talent and dedication of young athletes but also brings our community together in celebration of sportsmanship and excellence. Hosting such a significant competition underscores our city's commitment to fostering athletic development and showcasing our facilities. We look forward to a week of exciting competition and the opportunity to extend our warm hospitality to all visitors."

As the BCSSA championship draws closer, event details and public swim updates will be provided on the City of Prince George website.
