The current heat wave has contributed to dual risks in the City of Prince George related to flooding and wild fires. Here is an update, along with some information for residents on how they can be prepared.
Currently in Prince George
- Most of the area around Prince George has a fire danger rating of “high” to “extreme” – see the BC Wildfire Service website for more info.
- Prince George Fire and Rescue Services is banning all fireworks and open burning in the City until further notice.
- High temperatures have accelerated alpine snow melt, contributing to rising river levels in the Nechako and Fraser Rivers. While no evacuation alerts have been issued this week, a flood warning has been issued by the Government of BC for the Upper Fraser. The Government of Canada reports on river levels taken at South Fort George.
- There are various locations around Prince George where residents can access cool spaces and hydration.
Personal Preparedness

- Sign up to receive emergency alerts from the City of Prince George. Subscribe from the City website.
- Familiarize yourself with local evacuation zones and evacuation assembly points.
