Prince George, B.C. – The City of Prince George encourages residents to have their say on the 2027 budget by getting involved this fall and winter. The first phase of budget engagement begins today with five check-up surveys which have been revamped this year to help staff and council better prioritize service levels and budget decisions.
Engagement phases
Phase one runs from September 1 to October 7 and focuses on resident experiences with City services, community priorities, and opportunities for improvement. Service areas include parks and trails, events and recreation, snow removal, protective services, and roads and sidewalks. Surveys are available online or in-person at both Prince George Public Library locations, City Hall, Elder Citizens Recreation Association, Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society, Hart Pioneer Centre, and the South Fort George Family Resource Centre. The results of this phase will be presented to Council for consideration later this fall.
Phase two begins on November 27 and invites residents to weigh in on the proposed 2027 budget with more focused questions on spending priorities and related potential property tax impacts. This phase will feature an online survey and in-person events through November and December and results will be presented to council for consideration before budget deliberations begin in January.
New process
Over the past four years, the City has conducted budget engagement during a single participation period, typically between September and November. The 2026 general local election takes place during this time, providing an opportunity to refresh the City’s approach by separating engagement into two public participation periods. The second phase starts once the proposed expenditures and tax impacts are available for 2027, allowing residents and businesses to respond directly to the real proposed budget, rather than figures from the previous year.
