National Indigenous Peoples Day

On behalf of Council and City staff, it is our pleasure to acknowledge National Indigenous Peoples Day. The City of Prince George is on the traditional lands of the Lheidli T’enneh and we greatly appreciate the relationship that we have, and continue to develop, with the Lheidli T’enneh. In particular, I would like to recognize Chief Dolleen Logan for assisting us in seeing and understanding opportunities for collaboration and partnership.

This photo of me with Chief Logan was taken recently at the Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park Pavilion, which opened three years ago today. The Pavilion is a gathering place that celebrates the landscape and the wisdom of elders in a part of Prince George that is extremely popular with children and families.

Today, in addition to members of the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation, Prince George is home to indigenous people from around the world. On this day, let’s recognize that we can all do better to make our community even more welcoming to everyone.

Finally, remember that we are still in a pandemic and please be Covid-safe in whatever you do today to acknowledge National Indigenous Peoples Day. I look forward to this day next year, when hopefully we can gather together again at the invitation of the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation in the park that bears their name.
