City crews are preparing park amenities for winter and shuttering gates at Connaught Hill Park, Nechako Riverside Park, Masich Place Stadium, and other sports fields until spring. Here are the latest updates on what's closed and open for the winter:
Sports fields
• Starting November 1, all sport fields in Prince George, including the public track at Masich Place Stadium, will close for the winter.
• Masich Place Stadium will remain open for booked events, such as UNBC Timberwolves soccer, high school football games, which are scheduled until November 19.
Prince George parks
Gates in these City parks will close to vehicle traffic for the winter:
• Connaught Hill Park (starting Sunday, Oct. 31)
• Carrie Jane Gray Park (starting Sunday, Oct. 31)
• Nechako Riverside Park (as soon as snowy weather makes the park inaccessible)
Park washrooms and outhouses
Open year-round
Outhouses at the following City parks are open and serviced over winter:
- Cottonwood Island Nature Park
- Ferguson Lake Nature Park
- Forests For The World
- LC Gunn Park
- Moore's Meadow Nature Park
- Wilson Park
Closed for the winter season
- Duchess Park (starting Friday, Oct. 29)
- Connaught Hill Park (starting Sunday, Oct. 31)
- Lheidli T'enneh Memorial Park (starting Friday, Oct. 29)
- Rainbow Park (starting, Sunday, Oct. 31)
- Nechako Riverside Park (as soon as snowy weather makes the park inaccessible)
Note: all City parks are open year round for hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and walking, but please be aware of icy conditions and other seasonal hazards.
