FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Prince George, B.C. –  Several local parks and trails are closed this week due to seasonal flooding of the Fraser and Nechako Rivers. The affected areas are:

  • Cottonwood Island Nature Park
  • Paddlewheel Park
  • Heritage River Trail from Cameron Street to Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park

Residents are asked to stay away from riverbanks, creeks, and fast-flowing bodies of water as they are extremely dangerous. Avoid recreational activities such as fishing, swimming, boating, or hiking near high streamflow rivers or streams, which can easily trap even strong swimmers and increase drowning risks.

City staff are monitoring river levels and will provide updates as they become available. Report flooding by calling the City’s Service Centre at 311 within city limits or 250-561-7600.
