Application for a Position on the Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusion

The committee is responsible for providing advice to Mayor and Council and City staff on the identification, removal, and prevention of physical, social and attitudinal barriers to individuals in or interacting with the City of Prince George or which impedes the full participation of all citizens in every aspect of community life.

The membership is a cross-representation of individuals with disabilities, those who support individuals with disabilities, or individuals with an interest and/or experience in relation to diversity and inclusion and reflects the diversity of persons in Prince George.

Applicant Information

Per section 3.2 of the Committees, Commissions, and Boards Procedures Manual, to qualify for appointment to a Council committee, applicants must be eligible electors of the City of Prince George.
Per the definition of "members of the public" in the Council Procedures Bylaw No. 8388, 2011, this does not include a member of Council or an officer or employee of the City. City employees are not eligible to apply for membership on a Council Committee.

In accordance with the Accessible BC Act, Council seeks to have committee membership that reflects the diversity of persons in British Columbia.

For the purpose of this committee,

  • "disability" means an inability to participate fully and equally in society as a result of the interaction of an impairment and a barrier.
  • "impairment" includes physical, sensory, mental, intellectual, or cognitive impairment.
  • "indigenous" includes the Indian, Inuit, and Métis peoples of Canada (as defined by the Constitution Act, 1982).

Although not required, applicants are encouraged to self-identify if they meet one of the categories of representation listed below.

The Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusion depends on active participation of its members.  Applicants for the Committee should note that regular attendance at quarterly meetings is expected in addition to their willingness to participate in activities undertaken by the Commission throughout the year.
