Moore’s Meadow rezoning
Council voted to proceed with the first three readings of a rezoning application for certain land currently zoned Agriculture and Forestry (AF) and located adjacent to Moore’s Meadow Park, to be zoned Parks and Recreation (P1).
A follow up motion was also approved that asks administration to investigate and return a report on the aggregate resources on the site, including the estimated quantity, quality, and value and the feasibility of its extraction and removal. The report will also include considerations related to future trail connectivity, environmental impacts, and potential implications for future park use.
Standardized housing design catalogue
Council directed administration to move forward with next steps to implement a standardized house design catalogue and a related streamlined permitting process for using standardized house plans.
A presentation from Small Housing BC explained that the project focuses on advancing Small-Scale Multi-Unit Housing (SSMUH) in response to recent provincial legislative changes under Bill 44, which are intended to increase housing supply, expand housing choice, reduce barriers to development, and support more efficient residential approval processes.
The report notes that standardized plans can be pre-reviewed for compliance with applicable zoning and building regulations, helping shorten design and permitting timelines, improve certainty for builders and homeowners, reduce municipal review workloads, and support faster delivery of SSMUH forms without compromising regulatory oversight or building quality.
Blackwater Gold mine liaison
Council voted to appoint Councillor Brian Skakun as the City of Prince George’s representative on the Community Liaison Committee for the Blackwater Gold Project. Councillor Ron Polillo was appointed as the backup representative.
The Blackwater Gold Project is an open-pit gold and silver mine with associated ore-processing facilities located 110 kilometres southwest of Vanderhoof, B.C. As a condition of BW Gold’s Environmental Assessment Certificate, the company is required to establish a Community Liaison Committee.
The committee’s role is to share information with BW Gold about project effects in member communities, advise on mitigation measures related to social and economic impacts, and review and comment on the Community Effects Monitoring and Management Plan and its implementation. The report to Council noted that BW Gold invited the City of Prince George to participate by appointing a representative and alternate representative to attend quarterly committee meetings.
June building permit summary
Council received a building permit and development permit summary for June 2026. The report includes all residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional permits, and the estimated total construction value of each development. The June total is made up of four commercial/industrial permits and 49 residential permits, worth a combined total of $19.6 million. The year-to-date figure for 2026 is 205 permits valued at $111 million. This is down on the year-to-date for January to June in 2025, where the total at that time was 194 permits with a value of $184 million.
