Prince George, BC - Due to a delay by BC Hydro in providing a permanent power source, crews with the City of Prince George installed temporary power to recently installed streetlights along 1st Avenue between Foothills and Tabor Boulevard. The lights are expected to be operating by the end of the day. This operation is undertaken in response to requests from residents living along the busy route who were in the dark during this transition to new lighting infrastructure. There are over 100 residential units including houses and apartments along the route, and thousands more in the surrounding neighbourhood.
The operation began in August to install new LED lights along the Avenue as the first part of a multi-year operation to replace aging and failing streetlights in Prince George. The initial time estimate provided by BC Hydro to the City of Prince George suggested that the lights would be energized by the end of October. Upon further review, BC Hydro now expects the process to take an additional four to six weeks until the lights can be permanently powered.
