Prince George, B.C. - The City of Prince George will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Canada Day festivities at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park on July 1 from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.
“Together we are celebrating a 50-year tradition in the City of Prince George. This is a great accomplishment for our community, and I look forward to welcoming all residents to Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park on July 1,” said Mayor Simon Yu.
The Multicultural Heritage Society successfully hosted the popular summer event in Prince George for nearly five decades. The City stepped in this year to help organize and host after a request from the society for assistance.
“We are happy to keep this long-standing tradition going in Prince George,” said community coordinator, Doug Hofstede. “Canada Day in the Park will have all of the same events and attractions that community members have come to know and love over the years including multicultural food options, all-day entertainment, kids’ activities, and a marketplace.”
Ceremonies at the bandshell start at noon with an opening from Lheidli T’enneh First Nation Elder Darlene McIntosh and a cake cutting to celebrate Canada’s 156 anniversary at 12:30 p.m. The marketplace, food pavilion, and kids zone open at 11 a.m. Vendors interested in registering for the marketplace can apply until June 22.
