FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Prince George, BC – In response to high temperatures expected for the remainder of the week and a heat warning issued in the Prince George area by Environment Canada, the City of Prince George is working with partnering organizations to provide cooling spaces.

The following cooling centres will be available:

Natsoolyis' - Central Interior Native Health Society

Location: 393 George Street

Hours of operation: July 17 from 1 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Thursday to Monday, 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

POUNDS

Location: 1126 3rd Avenue

Hours of Operation: Wednesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

High temperatures affect everyone, but risks are greater for seniors, people with limited mobility, and people with pre-existing health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, or respiratory disease. Check on family, friends, and neighbours who are at higher risk, particularly if they live alone, to make sure they have a cool space. Watch for early signs of heat illness (feeling unwell, fatigue, thirst, headache, unusually dark urine) as these can rapidly evolve into life-threatening emergencies.

Residents are also encouraged to seek air conditioning at public places such as the Prince George Public Library, the Aquatic Centre, Canfor Leisure Pool, shopping centres, or seniors centres.

High temperatures are expected to continue until Tuesday, July 23.
