FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Prince George, B.C. – The City’s Official Community Plan (OCP) is one step closer to being finalized following City Council’s approval of the second reading of the bylaw at Monday night’s meeting.
Council also approved a special council meeting on March 19 to hold a public hearing, providing the final opportunity for residents to share their feedback on the plan directly with council members. The public hearing will commence at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers on the 2nd floor of City Hall.
The OCP review was publicly launched on September 18, 2023. This critical document outlines a long-term vision and comprehensive framework for development, land use, and community growth through to 2050.
The review process included multiple phases, the most recent being Phase Four, which began in November 2024. This phase included the release of the draft OCP document, a community survey, and three pop-up engagement events.
Throughout the review, public engagement has been extensive:
- Three community open houses, attended by more than 350 people
- 12 pop-up events, engaging more than 655 people
- Four roundtable discussions with community organizations and agencies, including the Chamber of Commerce, PG Airport Authority, and School District 57
Feedback has been incorporated into the OCP draft since the start of phase four, including from groups like BC Transit, the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George and the Agricultural Land Commission. When making updates the City has been sure that changes made are reflected throughout the entire document. Part of the agenda items on Monday night included a marked up version on the draft OCP, showing in red all the changes made to date, this can be viewed here.
Council received a "What We Heard" report and a project summary at the February 3 meeting, where the first reading of the bylaw was also approved.
If significant amendments are made to the OCP following the March 19 public hearing, an additional public hearing will be scheduled before proceeding to third reading and then final adoption.
