FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Prince George, B.C. – The City of Prince George is excited to announce that it has received grant funding from the province’s 2026 Community Event Support Fund to celebrate the FIFA World Cup.
The grant supports the planning, promotion, and safe delivery of soccer-themed events that foster community pride and cultural expression, benefit local businesses and help attract visitors to regions throughout the province during the tournament. The City gratefully acknowledges the financial support of the Province of British Columbia through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport.
“The City is thrilled to provide residents with the chance to watch world-class soccer for free this summer while celebrating this historic opportunity for B.C. together,” said Mayor Simon Yu, “thank you to the Province of B.C. for providing Prince George with the $50,000 grant that enables us to host this exciting event for all members of the community to enjoy.”
Kicking off on June 12 through to the final on July 19, the City and local partners are planning several different watch party and entertainment activations at various locations including the Canada Games Plaza.
More details will be released later this spring, but residents can expect the game on the big screen, live music, beer gardens, and more.
