FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Prince George, B.C. – Representatives from the City of Prince George were in the province’s capital last week to advocate for the region and advance key City priorities. Members of the Standing Committee on Intergovernmental Affairs and staff took part in 20 meetings over the course of the delegation.

Council recently voted unanimously to expand the committee’s terms of reference, strengthening its mandate to advocate more directly for community priorities. This work is part of Council’s broader strategic approach, which includes the intergovernmental affairs committee, participation in the BC Urban Mayors’ Caucus, and representation through the Union of BC Municipalities.

Meetings with government ministers, parliamentary secretaries, and members of the Official Opposition provided an opportunity to advance Prince George’s priorities across both sides of the Legislative Assembly. Discussions focused on forestry permitting and stumpage modernization, defence related opportunities, public safety initiatives, health priorities, support for seniors and aging in place, emergency preparedness, and Prince George’s role as a regional economic hub with strong potential for investment and growth, particularly in the clean energy and mining sectors.
