FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Prince George, B.C. – The City of Prince George invites residents to learn more about the roles and responsibilities of local government and get involved in public engagement opportunities at CityFest this Wednesday, May 13. From 3 to 6:30 p.m., residents can stop by the Prince George Conference and Civic Centre to chat with City staff from more than 25 divisions, ask questions, and provide feedback on programs and services that keep our community running.

Local Government Awareness week runs from May 10 to 16 and is an ongoing initiative that generates awareness and educates the public about the roles and responsibilities of local government and encouraging public participation in local government processes. Local governments deliver services, offer choices, make decisions, and operate in ways that affect the daily lives of community members more than other levels of government. That's why the City is committed to listening and considering resident feedback as part of the decision-making process and is a key feature at the spring engagement event.

CityFest attendees can provide feedback on several initiatives, including:

  • Community conversations about Prince George’s riverfront: The long-range planning division is seeking residents’ ideas and priorities to help shape the long-term vision for these important public spaces.
  • Potential stormwater management rebates: The asset management division is seeking preliminary feedback on initiatives that could help offset the cost of the upcoming stormwater utility levy while encouraging actions that reduce runoff from rain and snowmelt into the stormwater system.
  • Modernizing heritage initiatives and inventories: The Heritage Commission is seeking feedback on the stories, people, places, and traditions that make Prince George feel like Prince George.
  • Identifying infrastructure priorities: The capital planning division is inviting residents to prioritize infrastructure investments through an interactive budgeting activity.
  • Five open alternate approval processes (AAPs): Residents can learn more about the active AAPs and fill out elector response forms.

The event also features a number of family-friendly activities:

  • Food trucks Baller Food and Frank’s Family Concession
  • Live entertainment by DJ Ant, free face painting, City trucks and fleet vehicles, and free skate rentals in the plaza
  • Meet-and-greet opportunities with members of Council
  • Giveaways and fun games including coveted Mr. PG swag
