Parking changes for Harry Loder Park

Council directed administration to undertake the necessary planning work to create additional parking space adjacent to the outdoor basketball court at Harry Loder Park with the intent of increasing parking capacity for seniors accessing adjacent resources, and other park users.

The direction was on a Notice of Motion that asks that administration report back to Council with all options and considerations in time for consideration as part of the 2027 Financial Plan and Capital Plan budget deliberations.

The Notice of Motion indicated that feedback from residents has indicated that the current parking situation presents accessibility challenges.

It was also asked that administration work with Northern Health leadership to see if they can help share the cost of the project, noting the current parking shortages at Rainbow Lodge and for its tenant, Spruce Capital Seniors, and include these factors in the report for budget consideration.

Palliative Care society

Council received an update from the Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society on the evolving role of the society in the community.

The update explained that the society is pushing for a new Palliative Wellness Centre. This centre would include 10-12 respite suites plus integrated caregiver support.

Council voted to refer this initiative to the Standing Committee on Intergovernmental Affairs to work on ways the City could support the project with advocacy to the provincial and federal governments.

Zoning application for Aboriginal Housing Society

Council approved the first three readings for a Zoning Bylaw Amendment Application at 1794 Redwood Street to support the development of a 45-unit, six-storey development.

The report showed the applicant is the Aboriginal Housing Society of Prince George and the subject property is a consolidation of several previous single-family lots and is currently developed with a single-family dwelling that will be demolished to accommodate the proposed apartment use.

The rezoning change for the property is from RS4: Urban Residential to RM7: High Rise Residential to facilitate the development on the subject property.

Corporate workplan

Council received an updated Corporate Work Plan (CWP) for Spring 2026.

The CWP is one component of the City’s integrated planning and performance measurement process - a cycle that integrates the City’s long-term service strategies and policy directions, departmental plans, emerging priorities, and financial planning with performance monitoring and reporting. The CWP helps ensure that public funds are allocated to Council’s top priorities, and that City staff understand how their work fits into the goals that underpin the City’s strategic plan.
