Changes to communicating statutory public notices

Type(s)
Media Releases

On November 1, the City changed the way it communicates statutory public notices. It is no longer advertising all public notices in the local newspaper, however, some will be published in the paper from time to time for major projects or applications. The City’s statutory public notice bylaw states that newspaper notices may be provided if the matter affects the community at large or when significant public interest is anticipated.

Statutory public notices will always be published on the City website, shared on its Facebook page, and posted to the 1st floor bulletin board at City Hall. To receive all public notices by email, subscribe to the mailing list at www.princegeorge.ca/subscribe!

What is a statutory public notice? Under Provincial legislation, the City is required to issue a statutory public notice for various activities such as public hearings, land dispositions, rezoning applications, and review of the City’s annual report. For some land related notices, there is also a requirement to notify neighbouring properties by letter and the City will continue to do that in accordance with the legislation.

A statutory public notice is different than a news release. News releases are distributed by the City on any issues or events that are of significance and are of general interest to citizens such as a road closures due to construction, tax changes, or park enhancements.
