FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Prince George B.C - The City of Prince George is inviting people to come and have their say on the Official Community Plan (OCP) review with a number of pop-up events planned over the coming weeks.

These sessions allow residents to learn more about the review process, plus get involved by highlighting different areas of Prince George that are important to them for preservation or improvement, and what people’s ideal vision for the City looks like in the future.

The upcoming event details are:

  • January 5 – Pine Centre Mall, 10am – 5pm near the south entrance between Ardene and Michael Hill
  • January 13 – Cougars Game, CN Centre, 5pm – 8pm in the concourse at Section W
  • January 26 – Pine Centre Mall, 10am – 5pm near the south entrance between Ardene and Michael Hill
  • February 17 – Downtown Winterfest, Veteran’s Plaza, 11am – 4pm

There was also a pop-up held at the December 28 Cougars game.

An OCP communicates a community’s vision, goals and objectives and outlines long-term development plans. It also guides planning and land use management. The City’s existing OCP was adopted in 2011.

OCPs also acknowledge the traditional territories of Indigenous Peoples. The OCP Review will be an opportunity to advance truth and reconciliation with the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation and Urban Indigenous members of the community.

The new OCP will guide growth and development through to 2050. The OCP review process started in September last year with community sessions and an online survey.

Following the months of visioning and engagement, drafting of the OCP begins now and continues through until August. Final OCP review and approval is expected by the end of the year.

Two more community open house events are also being planned, with details of those to be put on the website once confirmed. All the information around the OCP and upcoming community consultation can be found here.
