Prince George, BC - The City of Prince George highly values the ideas and input of citizens, particularly as it relates to ways we can make the community better. For this reason, the City is seeking the input of residents about an idea put forth to City Council by a consortium of dedicated community groups, including the Prince George Community Foundation, Rotary Club of Prince George, and Colliers Project Leaders, which wishes to see a large and comprehensive park or “mega park” developed on civic property.
The cost of design and purchase of play structures would be funded by these partners. The City would need to take responsibility for the park, including costs for providing the land and the services to the property such as water, sewer, power, and other park amenities such as parking and washrooms. The City would also be responsible for ongoing maintenance and insurance costs.
The City of Prince George needs feedback from residents on what they think of the mega park proposal, and which proposed features they wish to be included. The City has published a survey at www.princegeorge.ca/getinvolved to collect feedback from citizens about the mega park proposal. The survey will be open until June 9, 2022.
At present, the project scope for the park includes:
- A paved pump track capable of hosting competitions.
- A junior adventure park suitable for children 18 months to five years of age.
- A youth (five years +) adventure park.
- A seniors-friendly outdoor fitness station.
- An inclusive and accessible playground for all ages and mobility levels.
The proposed park location is an approximate 6 acre site at the corner of Ospika Blvd and 22nd Avenue.
