Do not overfill the cart and please remember to place recycle containers 2 meters from garbage cart. What's an RFID and why does my garbage cart have one?
RFID - or radio frequency identification - tags use radio frequency technology to track objects. These tags are often used on airline luggage, tickets, or retail store items. The RFID tag attached to your cart doesn't change how you use your cart or alter the way the carts are put out on collection days.
What the tags do is make our collection routes more efficient, which reduces our carbon footprint. Functioning tags also reduce the odds of us missing carts on collection days and help keep recyclables out of our landfills.
Privacy concerns
The City collects photos of household garbage cart infractions such as overflowing carts, which do not meet the City of Prince George Garbage Collection Regulation Bylaw No. 7661, 2004. These photos are collected under the authority of section 26(c) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. The information collected through the RFID tags is stored by the City on a secure server and any captured personal content such as people or vehicles is blurred out to protect privacy.
If you have questions about the collected photos please contact us at 3-1-1 (or 250-561-7600 outside city limits).
