Prince George, BC – Staff presented Council with a six-month update on significant capital projects at the June 26 Council meeting. The report informs Council of the City’s capital budget and performance for significant projects over $1 million and currently indicates total capital expenditures are below the total approved budget allocation.
The report includes status information on major, debt and endowment-funded initiatives and covers active works for capital projects. Attached with the staff report is a 2023 project list that details, amongst other things:
- Project budget health and amendments
- Schedule health
- Forecasted completion dates
- Initial approval year
- Budgeted cost compared to actual cost
- Project update comments
Notable projects completed or underway so far in 2023:
- Malaspina Avenue Daycare
- Dagg Road Daycare
- 7th Avenue Streetscape Update
- 2023 Water Main replacements
- Former Fire hall #1 demolition
- Civic facility roofs replacements
The report aims to keep council and the public informed regarding municipal spending.
Mayor Simon Yu said the six-monthly updates are an important communication strategy that are part of continued actions to improve transparency. “When it comes to capital projects, we know there is a need to keep everyone informed. We’re pleased with the progress of the notable projects, and we appreciate the ability to receive updated information in these reports and have an opportunity as a council to ask questions,” he said.
