Prince George, BC – This summer will see some park maintenance projects that will require temporary closures in Prince George.

The Heritage River Trail is currently under construction and will be closed through the summer for maintenance. The closure includes 200m of trail north of the CN Rail bridge to replace the pedestrian bridge with a pedestrian/service bridge that allows for trail access for maintenance equipment as well as provide a safe pedestrian crossing.

The canoe launch parking lot in Cottonwood Island Park will also be closed all day on Monday, May 1st for maintenance and truck access.

“Spring is a busy time for our parks team. We have a lot of winter clean-up to do in all our parks and trails to remove tree limbs and garbage, but this is also the start to many important projects that can only be done in the warmer months,” stated Neil Matheson, parks supervisor.

Spring maintenance includes trail cleanup, playground inspections, tree planting, and parking lot grading. These items will take place over the next several weeks.

Capital projects planned for this summer include:

All of these projects are dependent on weather and availability of contractors and supplies.
